Imovie To Premiere
I've been using PCs since the very first IBM but have since become impressed with the Apple MacBook Pro my wife recently bought for her design business - it really does do everything out of the box!
Last year I bought Adobe Premier Elements 3.0 to archive and sort DV material from our Canon MV750i and, via this, analogue stuff from Sony Hi8 camcorder it replaced (...but the moment this is unused - still shrink-wrapped!). I do not intend to do much editing other than remove the rubbish and perhaps add basic titles.
However I needed to put something on DVD quickly yesterday and was amazed how straightforward this was using iMovie and iDVD on the Mac.
So first question is does anyone no of a head-to-head review of the merits of iMovie compared with Premiere Elements. Alternatively personal views/recommendations would be useful.
A related but separate question is what is the best way of archiving the original material from tape to hard disk - I noticed that iMovie separated the original material into a number of .avi files; is there a way of e.g. getting one .avi file per full tape? Also is .avi compressed?
Hope I'm not duplicating an already asked and answered question - I did look before posting but couldn't find anything (but then may not have been looking in the right place!).
Many thanks.
